These are our two treatments for our idea:
"Lay
Your Love In Stone"
With valentine's day approaching Liverpool's lost in love,
and to commemorate this joyous occasion the Liverpool cathedral have offered a
service for couples to lay there love in stone. So really there's only one
question to ask 'what do you love?
The idea we have developed from this subject is to discover
how people react to the premises of love. Everyone has a different
interpretation of the meaning of love. The beginning of the documentary will
begin with shots of Valentine's Day related things (love hearts, Flowers).
The bulk of our documentary will be spontaneous interviews
with the public asking them "what do you love?" We are hoping this
will provide us with a true picture of what love really means.
Our
documentary will be trying to express the idea of love and the way that this
translates to the people of Liverpool, They will be telling the story of our
documentary.
The
mood we aim to create is a happy and vibrant attitude towards love. This may
change as the answers that we get from the contributors may portray a different
attitude. The techniques that we want to use are the same of that in
"Pockets" the documentary that was seen in the seminar. We want to
have lots of tight locked close up shots which will engage the audience to the
contributor. The use of shallow depth of field will allow us as film makers to
draw the audience's attention to the details, the use of SLR's will aid us in
this aspect have they have a very good range when it comes to depth of field. We
want to experiment with the use of sync and non-sync sound using the voice of
the contributor over shots of the items/ things they love, this creates an
aesthetically pleasing piece. It also breaks up the interviews and stops the
audience getting board of the same shot of people talking.
We want this documentary to be aimed at all audiences
we will achieve this by getting a perspective from all kinds of people to give
us a broad range of interesting subjects. We envisage our work to be viewed
online on vimeo / YouTube and possibly be entered into competitions such as the
Docufest.
The Cavern Club treatment
The Cavern Club is the home of all music in Liverpool, with
massive bands such as the Beatles bringing it to fame as the place where it all
started. We want to portray the clubs history after just celebrating its 50th
anniversary a few months ago. We plan to use a mixture of casual interviews
along with some gig footage, both filmed on the nights we are there, and using
old original archive footage. On top of this we will attempt to gain an
interview with the band that we will be filming to see what they have to say
about what the club means to them today.
In terms of our structure we plan to open up with some
original archive footage introducing the club, both external and internal.
After this we will have part of an interview with the current owner, and after
he makes his introductory point we show some current gig footage, and show both
the bands perspective as well as the audiences, before moving onto another
interview with either the record store holder or a current audience member. We
will be asking them the sort of questions like what the cavern club means to
them, and then we contrast that to a back to back cut of the other points that
the interviewees make.
In terms of filming the current gigs we will be experimenting
with attempting similar shots to the archive footage to be able to show the
contrast of the crowd from then to now. However this will also be mixed up with
other techniques, such as handheld in crowds and using stage access to gain
different perspectives. During the actual interviews we will be using a
standard sit down style, with a three light set up, and a relatively deep depth
of field to provide some interesting backgrounds in the wider shots. in
contrast to the lively, excitable gig shots will be shot with a large variety
of close ups, mid shots and long shots to keep with the fast pace. Over the top
of the gig footage will be a comment that the interviewee has used in none sync
sound, this shows the owners involvement in the club, and allows the audience
to realise that fact.
Our audience will be based on both younger people and older
people that still go and used to go to the Cavern Club. This allows both
extremes of these generations to see how the club has changed; from the
beginning to what it is today, and what it means to both types of people.
