Analysis of "Pockets":

We watched many short documentaries, out of all of them this was the one that caught my eye. The use of warm and bright colours, tight locked off shots and non-sync sound were just a few of the creative decisions that inspired me.
The simplicity of the documentary is very interesting, the way such a simple subject matter can be so interesting sparsed across a range of interesting looking people. The way they find the simplest of objects in their pockets that mean something much deeper amazes me and makes you think about the littlest things.
The film is very aesthetically pleasing, the use of artistic closed off shots to focus the eyes on the object in the contributor's hands gives it much more importance, but it also makes the audience look to the hands and you can see the difference and a bit of personality just through  looking at their hands. The shots of the contributors themselves are also brilliantly composed, leading the eye to how individual the contributors are, giving you in an insight to their character. The contributors themselves are very interesting to look at, the detail in their faces in particular, brings the audience closer to them.
The use of light and shallow depth of field is also eye catching. Bright colours and shallow depth gives it a heavenly aura, a warm feeling for the audience. The positive tone it creates enlightens the mood of the audience which is the target for the director. The style of the film seems poetic and artistic, which keeps in tune with the subject matter.
The soundtrack of the film is very individual and unusual. It has a child like tone, that is highlighted by the high tones every so often. It creates a very intriguing but uplifting mood, dragging the audience in to see more.
