To begin with came up with several ideas as a group, I found the "What is love?" idea to be the strongest and pushed for that to be our final idea. I did this because I felt the idea was simple but gave us a lot of creative freedom. As we developed, myself and Kyle(producer) worked on shot lists, locations and storyboards right up until the Liverpool trip.
The trip itself opened my eyes in terms of what the director role demands, and showed me how important the director can be when making final and creative decisions. I found that I was always involved in everything which is what I like, always being kept in loop in every moment.
When gathering contributors, myself and Kyle approached people in the street. I felt this was appropriate because I had a creative input into the sort of people we approached thought would fit the film. At first I thought it would be difficult in getting contributors but we ended up with more than enough.
After the trip we began editing our film straight away, using a lot of our time to sync the sound to the footage and convert the footage as we filmed on a DSLR. One factor that I thought effected our editing process was that our editor (Reece) was absent for the whole of the trip and the beginning of editing. So at the beginning I found myself doing the editing and found it difficult to get Reece in the loop/ mindset of what we wanted the film to look like because he wasn't in Liverpool when we filmed which would have helped a great deal but luckily Charlie (Sound Editor) was on hand to aid me until Reece was caught up. Although the editing went smoothly until we had mishaps with Soundtrack Pro crashing and losing our work but this was finally resolved and we finished the film on schedule.
Being a director has made me realise how much I enjoy it and will influence my future decisions although I feel being producer may also be an interesting role.
