Analysis of approach
(500 words):
How will you make this film? What will it look
and sound like? What is its style? What are the techniques used? What works were
inspirational to the film? What works does it resemble? What is its mood? Its
ambience? Demonstrate enthusiasm and a
distinctive visual/aural voice here. Include references to TWO films that you
have watched as research.
The film will have a grainy and bright effect,
giving the indication that the air isn't normal. There will be plenty of empty
space in the shots, aiming to show how lonely and secluded the characters are.
We would need to make most of the sounds in post-production as we would need to
simulate the atmosphere of an apocalyptic world due to too much noise pollution
in the real world. We will look for a secluded factory because there will not
be as much noise pollution and so this will be easier to edit. There will be a
subtle simple tone underlying throughout the film that will link to the idea of
radiation. Throughout the action there will be build-up of orchestral music
that speeds up closer to the action. Also with her heartbeat when she sees
Tyler and Brad for the first time.
Our inspiration would
be "I am Legend", we used this because of the relationship with the
man and dog in the post-apocalyptic world. We wanted to use a woman as a heroin
because in stereotypical horror movies women are perceived as weak. We also
want to show how a woman would fight through this horror with the scene where
the dog dies we thought that this could link very well to the film as it is
very emotional for the audience. We also got our inspiration from "Funny
Games" with the two men who are trying to play games with her and have the
intention to torment her. However we did not want to have the two men who are
abnormal to win because we want to please the audience and show how a woman who
is stronger than the two men. We also looked at the "Book of Eli"
because of the lighting and the colours they use for the background shots. We
want the idea that she loses her only companion and so she doesn’t have any
friends left and so the only hope she has left is to find new companions.
The mood is very
ominous, intense, and uncomfortable feeling with the two men. This will be very
sad for the audience when the dog dies.
