This idea has the best potential and a large scope to work from. Using the streets of Sheffield early in the morning we could re-create the sounds of an abandoned/post-apocalyptic city. Re-creating sounds such as rubble crumbling, paper being swept in the wind and fire burning. This idea can incorporate a huge range of sounds but it can also work with very little sound at all, creating an eerie and creepy atmosphere. The aim of this idea is to represent how empty the streets are, how quiet it is when nobody is around. This is what I think could be the most effective part as it can be more effective with a lack of sound with sudden noises. There are also many texts we can study that will boost our knowledge of the genre while increasing the effectiveness of our piece such as "28 Days Later","I Am Legend","The Book of Eli" and "Revolution".
The other ideas we had felt too safe or too difficult with little maneuverability. The first idea we had was to utilize the range of sounds in a kitchen or cafe, using sounds such as eggs cracking and the frying of bacon. But this idea not only felt too safe but also too confined. I wanted to have an idea with a lot of options, this is why we dismissed the idea of a house party because it seemed too limited in comparison to the idea of empty streets early in the morning. We also rejected the idea of an armory/military base, because we felt too difficult with a limited amount of sounds. But we then decided to develop the idea of an empty street early in the morning to our post-apocalyptic city.
The next step is to establish some base sounds and research some other pieces of similar work, gaining a greater idea of what we want to create.
